FABULOUS HORSE BY H. S. "ANDY" ANDERSON
MASTER WOODCARVING ARTIST
AND CERAMIC DESIGNER FOR BRAYTON LAGUNA

Wood carving circa 1942

H. S. "Andy" Anderson, formally Herbert S. Anderson[1], also known as Andy Anderson, woodcarver, (1893ľAugust 20, 1960) was one of the recognized masters of 20th century woodcarving, most famous for Scandinavian flat-plane style of woodcarving and caricature carving. (Quoted from Wikipedia.org)
Andy Anderson is best known in "pottery circles" as a designer for the Brayton Laguna Pottery Company of California. Some of his more famous examples of his work for Brayton include The Purple Cow series and the "Shotgun/Hillbilly Wedding." The woodcarving example above showing Hitler, cowboy, rope and horse is an Anderson creation presented as a gift to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during World War II. It now resides in the National Archives.
The similarity between the woodcarving and the ceramic horse is obvious. As one can see above, the ceramic horse is marked exceptionally well with a copyright date of 1936 and signed Andy. The horse stands about 8" tall and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Rare! (Item 3712) To Buy Click On The Red Square .
