WELLER 1904 WORLDS FAIR SOUVENIR
MADE BY THE WELLER POTTERY COMPANY ZANESVILLE, OHIO

PRESIDENT ANDREW JACKSON (1829-1837)

The Weller Pottery Company was a big hit at the 1904 World's Fair. The fair,  held in St. Louis, celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. This incredible purchase from France in 1803 extended the boundaries of the United States from the Mississippi to the crest of the Rocky Mountains; over 800,000 square miles.  Weller built an actual model pottery at the fair investing over $30,000 in the project. This souvenir, here featuring President Andrew Jackson, was made and distributed free of charge. Other presidents featured were Washington, Lincoln, Grant, T. Roosevelt, McKinley and Parker. This souvenir is quite unique and not always found on other similar Weller souvenir plaques. The abstract design to the left of this President,  upon closer examination, actually reads "L.P. 1904." The design on the right side reads "St Louis." The back of this plaque is also unique. The usual mark, if marked at all, is simply "Weller." This one also includes the words "Art Nouveau." The diameter is approximately 4" with no chips, cracks or repairs. (Item 3511) To see other outstanding Weller CLICK HERE!
